DECA Regionals, Frame Interpolation, and more!
Learn with Prabh (November): From crushing DECA regionals to creating a frame interpolation model from scratch.
Welcome to PrabhLearns,
I am Prabhdeep— A high school student, and you found my monthly newsletter! I learn and build around AI, make fire projects, and try to bring an impact. Hopefully you learn something new today. Let’s dive right into this month.
My Month
Although busy, things started getting easier as I adapted time-blocking. Managing school and all my other work was a hassle, but becomes a whole lot easier when you simply know what to do daily. I’ve been able to basically double my productivity with time-blocking, and I’m surprised how well it works for me.
I found something very cool— frame interpolation, basically creating the frame that comes between 2 intermediate frames, using AI. So I built it from scratch, and wrote a medium article about it.
No need to pay thousands for a high-speed camera now. 😂
DECA - Regionals
If you know me well, then you would know that I love business. Whenever talking to a entrepreneur- I always ask, “how can I learn entrepreneurship in high school“.
Well, DECA is the way.
DECA is split up into 2 parts, exam and role-play. Both are dependent on what ‘cluster‘ you are in- I was in the marketing cluster.
The exam is regarding actual knowledge about marketing.
For example, the 4 P’s of marketing.
The role-play is more interesting, it’s when you solve a case study and verbally present your solution to a judge- who typically has a business background.
Despite the actual knowledge, the best part is the skills.
In DECA I leveled up my communication skills significantly- I became much more articulate then a few months ago.
Weeks of preparation, multiple case studies, and finally this month was DECA regionals.
Business Casual.
To my surprise, I got selected for DECA provincials! 🥳 Which means I will have the opportunity to go to Toronto for 3 days!
Stay in touch to know more about when that happens.
AI Project
It might not be obvious- but actually I love AI. 😜
A lot of fields require high-speed camera’s- it’s very common.
Studying the wing movement of birds to investigating the deformation, fracture, and failure of materials can require expensive high speed cameras.
Surprisingly, there was a solution which companies like Nvidia are working on- called ‘Frame Interpolation‘.
In simple terms, AI can actually generate a frame between 2 frames, allowing you to massively increase the fps of videos.
I took the challenge, and started creating my own version of this. After tons of research, I figured that there wasn’t a clear tutorial or guide to create this- so I had to read through research papers and create my own frame interpolation model from scratch.
Sounds painful eh? It was actually very fun.
Training on just 10 epoch’s took ~5 hours, but the model was really starting to pick up the high level patterns in the intermediate frames by then.
Finally, to strengthen my understanding on my project, I wrote a medium article about it. It wouldn’t be a good learning experience if I didn’t fully soak in the experience.
TLDR;
Went to DECA regionals for marketing cluster.
Got selected for DECA provincials in Toronto.
Created a frame interpolation model from scratch.
Now What? 🔮
Once Again, Business Casual.
With a ever increasing productivity- I am excited to announce that I am most likely going to start building in public, specifically within AI.

Regardless, it’s been a good month, next month I am doing something pretty big with a major tech company that I’d be surprised if you didn’t know.
I hope to see you then, next month.
